Birmingham City FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
Bookies and journalists expected big things from Brum. A promotion push that failed to materialise in the end. The finished a comfortable 10th but never troubled the top six and only fell into the upper echelons of the bottom half on a couple of occasions.
Jay Stansfield popped up with 10 goals and 6 assists but the St Andrews faithful will have hoped for more from their 23 year-old, £15m man.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
I didn't understand the hype around Birmingham last season and I understand it even less this time around. They've sold two of their better players in Furuhashi and Wagner and signed Jhon Solis on a permanent after a reasonable loan spell last season. Dael Fry is a good signing at centre back but that's it at time of writing.
To challenge the top 6 as the bookies and other journalists are predicting, I think they need a minimum of 2 more eye opening signings. The Championship is incredibly strong for 26/27 and Brum are in danger of becoming an also ran.
Court Offside Tip
They're currently odds on at 5/6 to finish in the top 8 and make the play offs. I don't think that represents any level of decent value and whilst they could indeed sneak in, I don't see enough improvement in the ranks to dislodge one of the others I have above them. 11th seems about right for me. Another one to watch and look for some value as the season goes on.
