Manchester United FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

After a rocky tenure, Ruben Amorim finally departed Old Trafford in January, leaving the club in 7th position and in a poor run of form. In stepped former player Michael Carrick as temporary boss. Nobody will have predicted them to do as well as they did following the appointment, but most people will be pleased for Carrick. United won six of their next seven and only lost two of their final seventeen, finishing in 3rd place. After finishing 8th and then 15th respectively in the last two seasons, that's a pretty impressive return to Champions League football.

Carrick was handed a two year deal upon completion of the campaign. Arguably, shorter than he deserved after the last 5 months.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

There's definitely a positive buzz kicking around Old Trafford right now. The announcement of the new stadium build will hopefully put an end to any focus being placed on the foundations of the club falling apart.

In the transfer market it's fair to say they've made one of the signings of the window with Youri Tielemans arriving from Aston Villa for just £35m! An absolute bargain. Andre Santos also comes in from Chelsea for around £47.5m and together they help to bolster the squad with the addition of Champions League football for next season.

Court Offside Tip

I've got United coming 3rd again. I don't believe they have enough to challenge the top 2 right now but momentum goes a long way in this game and if they get on a run who knows. More likely in my opinion is that they contest 3rd to 5th with Liverpool and Chelsea and if they do come out on top of that battle, they've had a great season.
