Wrexham AFC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
After back to back to back promotions, you were forgiven for getting carried away with the fairy-tale happening at the Stok Cae Ras. Many tipping them for another unbelievable promotion. And they so nearly gave themselves a chance. Despite a poor start to the season, they slowly started to turn in some solid performances and after a strong Christmas / New Year period, they'd moved into the top half. I watched them destroy Blackburn at Ewood and the confidence was oozing through them. Agonisingly, they finished 7th, just two points outside the play offs and took just one point from their last two games so they will probably feel like they should have done better.
A dream draw in the FA Cup saw Chelsea roll into town in the fourth round and the Red Dragons had them panicking at 2-1 with just 15 minutes to play. Alas, a late goal and two in extra time saw the Premier League outfit prevail but Wrexham still took the applause.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
Everyone's second team came very close to the play offs last year but honestly, I think it's a good thing they didn't go up. The new Kop stand is in development and is costing the club a lot of money. A couple of stabilising years at this level will be good for the club.
The lack of any notable transfer activity as we speak suggests the club are looking at things in a similar vein. Hero from previous seasons, Paul Mullin, left the club last month and was one of the last of that group that kick started the run up through the leagues. Inevitable, but a shame to see nonetheless.
Court Offside Tip
After just missing out of the play offs last year, I'd love to say I see them going one better this time around but unfortunately, for the first time in 6 or 7 years, I think they take a small backward step. There's nothing wrong with a consolisation campaign whilst the new stand is built and they prep for the next era at the SToK Cae Ras.
