Colchester United FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
The U's averaged 11th position throughout the season and finished 12th. They never troubled the play offs and equally never feared relegation making it a very different season from the last few campaigns and arguably a welcome relief from the stress. As a sign of how 'average' they were, they placed twelfth for home form and twelfth for away form.
31 year old midfield Jack Payne was once again their most consistent performer with 19 goal/assist contributions, though Kyreece Lisbie more than played his part. The 22 year old pitching in with 11 goals and 5 assists.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
Having flirted with relegation a few times recently, last season was a welcome relief. But one I feel that may not be forthcoming again this time out. Sean Raggett has arrived as the only recognised singing and with many heading for the exit, it's going to take something impressive from the current crop to push on upwards, rather than fighting off the National League.
Losing Kyreece Lisbie to Reading will have hurt and it's tough to see where the replacement for his goal involvements will come from.
Court Offside Tip
I've got them down to finish 18th this time around but they could easily be dragged into the relegation fight. They should be strong enough to resist the drop but at 14/1 to be relegated, it has to be said there is some pretty incredible value there. Even as a cash out for profit option.
