Mansfield Town FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

The Stags started the season with an expectation of battling against relegation but in reality, they never really troubled anyone at the top or the bottom, spending the majority of the season in mid table, finishing 10th after a run of just one league loss in their final fifteen games.

Alongside a very productive league campaign was an excellent run in the FA Cup. After wins against Harrogate and Accrington, they then went to Bramall Lane and beat in form Sheffield United 4-3, followed by a wonderful performance in knocking out Premier League Burnley at Turf Moor, before eventually exiting the competition after a spirited performance against eventual Premier League champions, Arsenal.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

Early expectations aren't always the best barometre to go by, but if you were to believe them, you'd be expecting Mansfield to struggle this season.

However, Nigel Clough is a wiley little manager and he always seems to keep his teams the right side of the line. The signings of Michael Smith and David McGoldrick will certainly add a few goals although probably as one season wonders. Smith is 34, whilst McGoldrick is 38.

Court Offside Tip

After an impressive 10th place last season I think a more realistic 18th for the forthcoming campaign. I don't like predicting clubs to go down but have to admit, 4/1 on the Stags to be relegated does seem like very good value. I might be tempted as an outside punt.
