York City FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
What a season it was for the Minstermen. I was lucky enough to see them play back in January and they looked like a well oiled machine, completely ready for life in League Two. They went on to amass a whopping 108 points and finished the season with a +73 goal difference. 26 better than their nearest competitors.
It may have been a close battle for the automatic spot, but the right team got it. Ollie Pearce was top scorer with 34. A great return at any level.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
The bookies have York down to just finish short of the play offs in 2026/27, but I think they look like a very solid outfit and if they can keep the momentum from last season I don't see them staying around in League Two for very long.
There has been a lot of transfer activity at the LNER with 14 departures, most notably Malachi Fagan-Walcott who leaves to join Hearts in the SPL for £1.15m. A significant sum of money at this level! Arthur Read, Zech Medley and Mark Shelton come in to add some league experience to the ranks, whilst a few new youthful additions will definitely help too. Charlie McAthur and Zak Johnson join from the youth ranks of Newcastle and Sunderland respectively. Both on permanent deals.
Court Offside Tip

Back to back promotions is very much looming large for York. The bookies didn't fancy it early on but as the summer has gone on, their odds have crept ever shorter and I think 5/2 on promotion is massive. Full of confidence and a fan base that know they can push on.
