Shrewsbury Town FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
Shrewsbury began their first campaign back in League Two as 22/1 outsiders for the title, but the season quickly became a battle for stability rather than promotion. Arguably that was always going to be the case having finished the 24/25 season with just one win from their last seventeen games. After a difficult year that included a managerial change from Michael Appleton to Gavin Cowan, Salop finished 19th with 49 points.
George Lloyd ended as the club’s top scorer with just four league goals.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
After last season, one thing the club will be desperate to add is more goals and therefore it was no surprise to see Joe Gbode brought in. He has had his issues but there's no doubt there's a player in there. Arkell Jude-Boyd is a solid addition at right back after his transfer from Cheltenham and the squad is bolstered by 7 other summer signings.
The bookies are tipping them to struggle again this season and it is hard to see any positive shoots growing just yet. However, it only takes a good start to the season. Even one solid win to get it going and who knows.
Court Offside Tip
Tough times for the Shrews right now and I don't think things get any easier this time out. Another 19th place finish is in the offing unless they can find some goals. And the signing of Joe Gbode shows they are trying to do exactly that. League Two is tightly packed this season so if they get off to a good start, don't be surprised to see an unlikely play off push. They're 5/1 for a top 7 finish.
