Hull City AFC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions

Reviewing 2025/26

A few very well respected journalists tipped Hull for relegation and to be fair to them, from the outside looking in, things didn't look rosey in their garden. I had the Tigers to finish mid table but never expected a play off push. A push that they duly delivered after a relatively average start to the season. At the end of November they were sitting in 11th position but steadily they gained ground on teams above them and despite winning just one of their last seven, snuck into the top six on the last day.

Impressive Play Off semi final performances against Millwall followed and despite only finding out their opponents for the final a few days before, an Ollie McBurnie goal was enough to send the Tigers back up to the Premier League.

Looking ahead to 2026/27

Relegation. Right? It's difficult to expect any other outcome for the Tigers isn't it? They start as the weakest team in the division and haven't really strengthened at time of writing. Sometimes that can be a good thing but I get the feeling the Hull board are treating this just like Burnley do. As a cash cow.

Jack Butland and Matt Target arrive from Rangers and Newcastle respectively, whilst Hidemasa Morita comes in from Sporting on a free transfer. Oscar Zambrano is arguably the pick of the bunch though. A 22 year old defensive midfielder from Maribor. One to watch this season and his energy and effort could be vital if Hull are to put up any sort of fight.

Court Offside Tip

I know, I know. 1/4... Pathetically short odds. And you're right. I wouldn't take them. But the suggestion of the Tigers to be relegated still stands. My plan is to hope for a few good results from the first 6 or 7 games and review the odds then. Hope for 1/2 or even higher. One good win and you'd be amazed how much these odds jump around.
