Gillingham FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
As a Gillingham fan myself, I started the season with high hopes. Gareth Ainsworth was in charge and had finished the previous season strongly, we'd made a couple of decent signings at this level and Bradley Dack had signed a new one year contract. Things were looking up. The season started well and Gills topped the table after 8 weeks. However, it's fair to say they collapsed from there, culminating in a 17th placed finish after picking up just 7 more wins all season. A truly miserable 7 months from October to May.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
Reading through some other journalists predictions for this campaign and they're pretty positive about the Gills. I don't want to say I'm not, because I'm always hopeful, but having predicted a title charge last season I'm loathed to say anything of the sort.
It's going to be interesting to see how the new squad gel together. Outgoings include Max Clark, Remeao Hutton, Conor Masterson and Lenni Cirino amongst a list of 14 departures. Incoming we're yet to see many that fill you with hope, although Liam Gordon is an excellent centre back for this level. James Brophy and Will Goodwin will hopefully fire in a few goals and get the Kent based club on the up after 4 long seasons in the fourth tier.
Court Offside Tip
Lots of out's, lots of in's. An undecided fanbase. I don't think Gills have enough to mount a promotion push but they'll be far better than last season. 8th place would represent a very good campaign and at 9/4 for top 7, there's definitely some value there.
