Walsall FC - 2026/27 Preview and Predictions
Reviewing 2025/26
After completely collapsing at the end of the 2024/25 season and failing to get promoted despite dominating the league for almost the entire season, many had Walsall tipped to put things right this time out. The topped the league at Christmas and looked set to do exactly that. However, old demons reared their ugly heads again and the Saddlers won just 2 games between then and the middle or March. A period that saw them drop down to 12th. After 4 losses from the last five games, they finished the season in the bottom half.
Looking ahead to 2026/27
So, can the Saddlers make it third time luckythis season and actually get the promotion they probably deserve after the last 24 months? Short answer, unlikely.
Lots of transfer activity around the Bescot this summer but nothing that really gets you going. Andy Dallas has joined from Barnsley after a reasonable loan spell with Southend last season. Whilst James Connolly and Sven Sprangler are potentially the only other two that may make a difference. In total, 15 players have departed the club since May and that kind of turn over is likely to take time to work through.
Court Offside Tip
A tough team to predict a league position for. I've gone for 15th but it could just as easily be a play off spot. You just don't know what you're going to get. The problem for me is the transfer business over the summer and the obvious lack of form and belief within the club after two successive seasons of leading the league around Christmas time, failed to materialise into promotion.
